Nearly 300 Vacancies at GMC Doda, Govt Informs Assembly
Srinagar, March 15: Nearly 300 posts, including gazetted, non-gazetted, and multi-tasking staff, are vacant at Government Medical College (GMC) Doda, the NC government informed the Legislative Assembly on Saturday.
Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo, responding to MLA Sajad Shaheen’s query, said the vacancies include 123 gazetted, 126 non-gazetted, and 47 multi-tasking staff positions.
She said that efforts are underway to address the shortage, with faculty recruitment referred to the JKPSC and academic arrangements being made under SO 364 of 2020.
Besides, consultants are being deputed to GMC Doda on standard terms.
GMC Doda, established under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for new medical colleges, is functional with infrastructure in place, Itoo said.
However, improvements are needed. Civil work costs have been revised from ₹139 crore to ₹164.90 crore, with the balance funded under the Capex Budget. Of the ₹9.50 crore earmarked for 2024-25, ₹7.60 crore has been released, and ₹1.65 crore spent.
The hospital currently operates two CT scan machines and a Fibroscan machine but lacks MRI services due to project cost escalations.
While PG/MD/MS courses are not yet offered, GMC Doda plans to introduce them by the 2027-28 academic year.
Meanwhile, DNB courses are available in Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Pediatrics, and Orthopaedics. (Agencies)
