Shab-i-Miraj Holiday Postponed To January 28
The government has shifted the Shab-i-Miraj holiday from Monday to Tuesday, according to an official order issued on Saturday.
An order issued by GAD reads, “In partial modification of Government Order No. 2193 JK(GAD) of 2024 dated 29.12.2024, it is hereby ordered that the holiday on account of Shab-i-Miraj shall now be observed on 28th January 2025 (Tuesday) instead of 27th January 2025 (Monday) in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.”
The decision follows a communication from the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board to the Secretary of the Revenue (Hajj & Auqaf) Department, requesting the holiday be postponed. The communication cited the Administrator of Aasar-i-Sharif Hazratbal, Srinagar, who stated that Meraj-un-Nabi (SAW) would be observed on the 27th of Rajab, corresponding to Tuesday, January 28, 2025, rather than Monday, January 27.
The Waqf Board’s Chief Executive Officer confirmed the revised date after consultation with religious clerics and other stakeholders across the Union Territory.
The CEO subsequently requested the General Administration Department to reschedule the holiday to January 28, 2025, for the entire Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. (KL)
