The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has announced 20% reduction in textbook prices for classes 9-12 starting from the next academic year
This decision, termed "unprecedented," was revealed by NCERT Director Dinesh Prasad Saklani during an event here
New Delhi, Dec 16: The price cut was attributed to improved efficiency in paper procurement and the onboarding of modern printing technologies. Saklani emphasized that the cost-saving measures are being passed directly to students to reduce their financial burden.
While this reduction applies to textbooks for grades 9-12, those for grades 1-8 will remain priced at Rs 65 per copy. NCERT prints approximately 4-5 crore textbooks annually across 300 titles, ensuring wide accessibility for students nationwide.
The announcement was made during the Bhumi Pujan ceremony for a new auditorium at NCERT Headquarters, attended by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The event also witnessed the signing of an MoU with Flipkart to extend the reach of NCERT textbooks, complementing its partnership with Amazon.(ANI)
