Jammu & Kashmir Government Confirms December Exam Schedule for Students up to Class 9
Srinagar 4 Nov: The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced that end-of-year examinations for students up to Class 9 in the Kashmir Valley will occur in December, bringing clarity to weeks of speculation over the exam schedule. This decision aligns with the government’s recent update to the academic calendar, which designates November and December as the academic term’s final months for primary and middle school students. The Minister for Education, Sakina Itoo, reassured parents and students regarding the logistics, noting that adequate arrangements would be in place to address the challenges of winter weather. “The examinations up to Class 9 will be conducted in December. Parents and students should not worry about the cold weather. We will make all necessary arrangements in the examination halls. Exams were conducted in December earlier also,” Itoo told news agency KINS.
The government had previously shifted to a Uniform Academic Calendar starting with the 2022-23 academic year, to standardise schedules across the region. However, this is the first year that exams for lower classes are scheduled firmly in December, reflecting a transition to a more uniform schedule for all students. Starting next year, exams for students in Classes 10 to 12 will also follow the November-December cycle, bringing higher secondary education in line with the revised calendar.
This latest clarification has been welcomed by parents and educators alike, with many expressing relief over the clear timeline and the government’s commitment to ensuring comfortable examination conditions despite the cold. (KINS)
