Course Structure for Classes 11 and 12
Classes 11 and 12 form a unified course, with students required to select subjects in Class 11 that they will continue in Class 12. Here’s a breakdown of the subject selection process:
- Minimum Subjects: Students must choose a minimum of 5 subjects in Class 11.
- Language Requirement: Students must study either Hindi or English as one of their two language subjects.
- Core and Elective Levels: It's not permissible to offer a language at both the core and elective levels.
Subject Combination Options
- (Compulsory) Subject 1: Hindi Elective, Hindi Core, English Elective, or English Core.
- Subject 2: Any one Language not opted as Subject 1 or any one Elective from Group A.
- Subjects 3, 4, and 5: Any three electives from Group A, Group S, or a combination of both.
- Optional Subject 6: Any one elective or language from any subject group.
- Internal Assessment Subjects (7 to 9): Health and Physical Education, Work Experience, General Studies.
Textbook Guidelines
State Boards are responsible for selecting textbooks for classes 11 and 12 in regional languages. Schools must inform CBSE of any changes made by State Boards at the start of the school year. Adherence to CBSE-mandated textbooks is required, and any deviations will only be permitted following CBSE notification.
