IGNOU awards over 2.79 lakh degrees; 55% of conferred students are women
Gold medals were also awarded to meritorious students by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu.
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) hosted its 36th Convocation today conferring 2,79,917 degrees, diplomas, and certificates in the Convocation to the successful students in their respective programmes.
Gold medals were also awarded to meritorious students by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu.
Murmu lauded the progress made by women in several sectors, including education, and noted that 55 per cent of the students who received their degrees, certificates and diplomas were women.
Commemorating the ceremony, the President of India said: “Many students find it difficult to pursue higher education because of their ‘responsibilities’ and ‘circumstances’. Institutes like IGNOU are helping in providing education to such students. Thus, distance education has a wide socio-economic utility.”
