GDC Kargil organizes 5th Annual Zoology Students’ Seminar 2023
Kargil, April 20: The Department of Zoology, GDC Kargil today organized the 5th edition of the Annual Zoology Students’ Seminar 2023 on the theme G20 “Fauna of Ladakh”.
The two-day seminar which started on April 19 had presentations by students of 6th-semester batch 2020, Ph.D. presentations by faculty members and keynote addresses by invited experts. The event was attended by 200 participants including students and faculty members of the college.
The inaugural session of the seminar had presentations by students of C2/C7 sections and a keynote address by Iqbal Ali Khan, Ph.D. scholar from Gurukul Kangri University.
Iqbal made a presentation on his Ph.D. research titled “Distribution, Pattern, Population Density and Socio-Biology of Eurasian Magpie in Ladakh region of Himalaya”.
On the occasion, Co-Conveners of the seminar, Dr Zakir Hussain presented the opening remarks and Dr Sajjad Ah Bhat delivered the welcome address.
On the second and concluding day, students of C1/C4 section made their presentations. Dr Mohd Murataza, faculty member of the department, presented the valedictory address on the topic, “Epidemiological Studies and Molecular Characterization of Congenital Anomalies by Candidate Gene Approach.”
On the occasion, Dr Javed Naqi, HoD and Convener of the seminar deliberated on career opportunities in Zoology and the way forward.
The student conveners, Sakeena Banoo and Nargis Fatima, presented the seminar overview and vote of thanks respectively.
Mudassir Ahmad, a student of 6th semester conducted the proceedings of the concluding session. During the seminar, technical support was provided by Khadim Hussain, IT Incharge of the college.
Pertinently, the Annual Zoology Students Seminar was first organized by the Department of Zoology, GDC Kargil in 2018 and since then the annual event brings together students, faculty members and subject experts with an objective to inculcate scientific temper in students, develop presentation vis-a-vis research skills of students and train students to become competitive graduates in Zoological sciences.
