Footballer Sofyan Amrabat breaks fast during match after teammate’s fake injury
Ramadan started on 23rd March and has been observed by Muslim footballers around the world, with players fasting from dawn to sunset.
Inter Milan hosted Fiorentina on Saturday at the San Siro for a 5pm UK kick-off time, which was a 6pm start time in Italy.
Amrabat came off the bench in the second half and replaced Gaetano Castrovilli for Fiorentina, who secured a stunning 1-0 win on the night against Inter.
With Fiorentina holding a 1-0 advantage in injury time, having taken the lead through Giacomo Bonaventura, Inter pressed hard for a late equaliser.
During injury time, however, Amrabat was spotted on the touchline in the crucial late stages of the match receiving both a banana and water.
The fasting time on 1st April came to an end at 7:35pm UK time, with the sun going down around the final minutes of Inter vs Fiorentina.
Fans are convinced that Fiorentina defender Luca Ranieri was ‘wasting time’ during injury time to allow Amrabat sufficient time to break his fast.
Footage emerged of Ranieri receiving medical treatment, but fans believe he ‘faked the injury’ while his Fiorentina teammate wolfed down his banana and drank some water.
