2-week long NEP awareness program organized by GDC Kargil concludes
Kargil, April 01: The NEP Awareness Team of Govt. Degree College Kargil under the chairpersonship of the Principal Dr Amina Qari initiated the first NEP 2020 Awareness Program as part of a series of programs in different feeding higher secondary schools of Kargil.
The program was held on the directions of the Vice-Chancellor, University of Ladakh (UoL) and given NEP 2020 implementation from the forthcoming session 2023-24.
The college awareness team was divided into teams under Nodal Officer, Stanzin Norphail, Assistant Professor of Commerce. The teams comprised the faculty members like Sajad Hussain, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, Dr. Javed Mohammad Iqbal, Senior Assistant Professor of Zoology, Sonam Gyalson, Assistant Professor of Commerce, Dr Zakir Hussain from the Department of Zoology, Khadim-ul-Hassanain, IT incharge of the college.
The two-week long program commenced from private Higher Secondary Schools of Kargil town followed by Govt. Higher Secondary Schools of the district.
The College via the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kargil had requested to issue a circular to various feeding Higher Secondary Schools of the district for the conduct of NEP 2020.
The program was held in Higher Secondary Schools that include Munshi Habibullah Higher Secondary School, Jaffaria Academy of Modern Education Higher Secondary School (JAME), Kargil, Govt Boys Higher Secondary School, Baroo, GHSS Khangral, GHSS Chiktan, GHSS Pashkum, GHSS Shakar, GHSS Achkamal, GHSS Yourbaltak, GHSS Silmo, Govt Girls Higher Secondary School, Bazaar, Kargil and GHSS Shargole.
The main objective of the awareness program was to aware students primarily the 12th standard students of the New Education Policy 2020.
Students were informed about the change in the structure from a three to four- year undergraduate program (FYUGP) with the fourth year being optional, criterion-based and research-oriented.
They were also apprised about the availability of multiple entry and exit options on completion of each year which means that students can exit or enter after completion of each year during the pursuit of a three or four-year program.
Furthermore, they were also enlightened about the award of a certificate on completion of the first year, a diploma in the second year, a degree in the third year and a degree with research on completion of the fourth year which was lacking in the old education policy.
They were briefed that NEP 2020 offers flexibility in choosing subjects of their liking and interest as there shall be no separation among subjects. The introduction of Foundation courses and Minor courses in the first year will enable students to gain a fair idea about the subjects before pursuing them as majors and minors from the second year of FYUGP.
They were also apprised about the objectives of NEP 2020 to develop students with creative thinking skills, emotional development, conflict resolution skills, healthy social skills, manners, hands-on lessons etc. along with core academics to enable them to gain holistic knowledge.
Students were also educated about the Academic Bank of Credit (ABC). The said feature will be a virtual mechanism that will facilitate the storage of academic credit earned in higher education institutes. Forthcoming students of 12th class were urged to get themselves registered on ABC by visiting WWW.ABC.GOV.IN.
The awareness team also talked about various crucial aspects of NEP 2020. Students from all the schools asked questions related to NEP 2020 and they were given satisfactory answers by resource persons.
On the culmination of each program, Principals of all the visited schools appreciated the exercise and acknowledged the importance of NEP 2020. They thanked the team for conducting such a program and termed it highly fruitful and informative for the students.
