Amid peace along borders, students want govt to focus on education sector

Seek improvement in infra, proper teaching staff

Kupwara, Mar 01: Like the rest of the Valley, schools reopened in remote villages along Line of Control after three months of winter vacation. Unlike the past when students were afraid to move freely for the fear of shelling or firing from across the border, students were seen heading toward their schools early in the morning.

Amid the prevailing peace, students have expectations that ongoing calm will allow the government to focus on the education sector now. Several students in Chokibal in Kupwara told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that they urge the government to focus on educational institutions in remote areas as they feel they were neglected by successive governments.

"We want to fulfil our dreams by getting a good education in our respective schools. Earlier, we were hit by constant shelling on the borders but now the situation has improved and they expect improvement in the education sector as well," Salman Showket, a student said.

Students like Zainab are happy that calm is prevailing in their areas for the last two years after the armies of India and Pakistan revived the ceasefire agreement along LoC and borders.

Amid the prevailing peace, they want the government to improve education sector in the border areas "Some schools lack infrastructure while others lack teachers. We want all these loopholes bbe addressed," she added—(KNO)
