Cold wave, dry temp to grip Kashmir till Dec 31; Sgr night temp to touch – 6 degrees Celsius
Independent Weather Forecaster says 90 per cent chances of dry weather till Dec end; Sgr, Kupwara record coldest night of season at minus 3.6 degree Celsius
Srinagar, Dec 16: Even as Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir and Kupwara in northern district of Kashmir recorded coldest night of the season, the night temperature would likely plummet further across the Valley as the dry spell would continue till December end in Kashmir.
Night temperatures in Srinagar is set to touch – 5 to - 6 degrees Celsius till the end of the ensuing month. As per the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Srinagar recorded the coldest night of the season at minus 3.6 degree Celsius. Kupwara district in north Kashmir also recorded the coldest night of the season at minus 3.6 degree Celsius. The night temperature settled below freezing point at most stations of Kashmir amid the persistent dry spell in the Valley.
The mercury settled at minus 2.5 degree Celsius at Gulmarg, a world famous ski-resort while in Kokernag, the mercury settled at minus 2.1 degree Celsius. In Qazigund, the mercury settled at minus 3.4 degree Celsius while Pahalgam was once again the coldest place at minus 5.3 degree Celsius. Independent Weather forecaster, Faizan Arif told KNO that the intense cold wave would grip Kashmir in the upcoming days as the temperature would go further down amid the forecast of continuous dry spell till December 31.
He said that the weather would remain completely dry till 31 December with 90 per cent chances. “In the coming days, a significant decrease is likely in night temperatures,” he said. He added that the maximum decrease is expected in the Chillai-Kalan days.
As per the forecast, he said that the night temperature in Srinagar would go down up to minus 5 degree Celsius to minus 6 degree Celsius. In Anantnag, Kulgam, Budgam, Baramulla, Bandipora and Ganderbal, it would go up to minus 6 degree Celsius while in Kupwara and Gulmarg it would go up to minus 5 degree Celsius to minus 6 degree Celsius. According to the forecast, he said that the night temperature Pahalgam, Shopian, Awantipora and Pampore areas in South Kashmir will go down up to minus 8 degree Celsius—(KNO)
