Meet Syed Rizwan Geelani, the star education reporter of Kashmir
Syed Rizwan Geelani, a reputed journalist of Kashmir is known for his extensive reporting on various issues but for his coverage of the education system in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir makes him the only top education reporter.
Rizwan is a known figure among teachers, school heads, students and education department
Basically a resident of Tangwara Qaziabad Langate, Rizwan’s family shifted to Baramulla in 1999.
He did his schooling up to class 12th from Saint Joseph’s Higher Secondary School Baramulla and passed class 12th in 2007.
He graduated from Government Degree College (GDC) Baramulla in Mass Communication and Video Production (MCVP) in 2010 and later did his PG in Mass Communication and Journalism from Kashmir University’s MERC in 2012.
“Every news story that I write has the objective of shedding light on a subject and giving readers the knowledge they need to make wise decisions in their daily lives,” Rizwan told Webstory.
He said that after joining the education beat, he always looked forward for finding and amplifying various voices around while making connections with those involved in the state’s education sector.
“I always ensure that Kashmir students, teachers, parents and school receive the coverage they deserve, and I promise to bring issues that matter to the forefront,” said Rizwan who is presently working as special Correspondent at Greater Kashmir Newspaper.
During the last seven years of his reporting on Education sector, Rizwan has put forth various crucial issues pertaining to both Government and Private Education Sector.
“My focus has always remained to write in the interest of students while considering the grievances of other stakeholders as well,” he said.
Besides reporting extensively on Education for the last seven years, Rizwan also reported on health sector in Greater Kashmir in recent past as well.
Before joining Greater Kashmir in November 2014, Rizwan has earlier covered politics, health, RTI, Business and Education in Rising Kashmir newspaper from 2012 to 2014.
