Kashmiri Scientist Bags National Award In Microbiology


Srinagar : Kashmiri scientist, Dr Zahoor Ahmad Parray, has bagged the national award for his contribution to the field of microbiology. The award was given to him by the Microbiologists Society of India (MBSI), an established research society.

Dr Parray along with two other scientists, Dr T Citarasu and Dr Shekhar Jain, would receive the Senior Scientist award during MBSI Annual Conference scheduled at Nagpur on January 22-24, 2023.

The MBSI, each year, invites nominations for various fields including senior scientists who have, over the years, conducted scores of research projects, trained students, managed grants from funding agencies and have rich experience in the field of microbiology.

The process for a national award goes through a process at the state level where professionals are first awarded. The state awardees are then scrutinised by a committee for national awards.

Dr Parray, currently, is working as a Principal Scientist (E-II) CSIR-IIIM. He did his early schooling at Salafia Muslim Institute Yaripora in Kulgam district.

He went on to pursue his higher secondary education at Government Higher Secondary School, Yaripora. He did his graduation from Government Degree College, Anantnag wherefrom he went on to pursue biochemistry at Kashmir University and then joined the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh for a PhD.

Dr Parray went on to peruse his Post Doctorate studies in Pretoria, South Africa where he worked at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research and researched nanotechnology He did his second Post Doctorate from the John Hopkins, Centre for Tuberculosis Research, Baltimore, Maryland.

Eventually, in 2010, he shifted from John Hopkins to CSIR IIIM where he currently works.(KashmirLife)
