Outbreak of HFMD: School Edu Deptt issues advisory

Srinagar, Sept 30: Following the outbreak of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) in some educational institutes, the School Education Department (SED) Friday issued an advisory to tackle it.

Chief Education Officer (CEO) Srinagar, Majid Ahmad in an advisory said, “Cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease have been reported in some schools of district Srinagar.

“In order, to prevent spread of the disease any further, heads of all the schools are directed to adopt the measures issued by the department with immediate effect,” read the advisory.

Majid advised the parents not to send their wards to school with the symptoms like fever, sores in mouth, skin rash, sore throat, small red spots and blisters.
“Children with above symptoms shall be isolated for 5-7 days post onset of the symptoms to prevent spread infection to other children or adults,” he said.
He directed to educate school children about the signs, symptoms and preventive measures.

“Maintain hygiene in and around classrooms and ensure wearing of masks and use of sanitizers by all students and teachers. Classrooms if required should be periodically sanitized,” Majid said.
The CEO further said that the heads of all the educational institutes are advised to follow the directions to prevent spread of the disease among children.
Majid said that the guidelines are subject to modification as and when communicated by the concerned authorities.
