Early on July 20, the district authorities in Baramulla made the wearing of face masks mandatory at all public places and educational institutions across the district in view of the surge in Covid-19 cases.
The authorities in Uri subdivision of north Kashmir's Baramulla district have directed the education department to suspend the class work at Government Higher Secondary School Bijhama Boniyar after sixteen students and two teachers were tested positive for Covid-19.
A health official told Rising Kashmir that on the directions of school authorities they had carried out sampling of at least 150 students and staffers at the school yesterday.
“ Out of the 150, a total of 18 were found positive for covid in Rapid Antigen Test. 16 students and 2 teachers came positive for the infection”, he said.
Zonal Education Officer, Chandanwari Uri, Shabir Ahmad Wani said that the school was closed soon after the health officials confirmed about the positive cases.
" The classwork at the school has been suspended till Saturday as per the order of SDM Uri. Around 350 students are enrolled at GHSS Bijhama and all of them have been directed to remain isolated.
The samples of other students have also been collected by health officials. We are waiting for the reports and the decision will be taken accordingly by the higher authorities," ZEO Chandanwari added.
While talking to Rising Kashmir Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Uri Harvinder Singh said that the authorities have decided to keep the educational institute closed for all sorts of activities.
“ The school has been closed till further orders and the concerned department has been directed to carry out fumigation of the school”, he said.
SDM Uri further added that Deputy Commissioner Baramulla and Chief Education Officer Baramulla have been informed about the situation and necessary action will be taken accordingly.

The deputy commissioner Baramulla, Dr.Sehrish Asgar (IAS) had ordered to ensure strict implementation of all preventive measures such as usage of face masks and maintenance of social distance in all the public places, educational and technical institutions across the district to minimize the spread of covid-19 infection.
