J&K Students Association Condemns Thrashing Of Kashmiri Students In Punjab

SRINAGAR : J&K Students Association here Sunday condemned the unwarranted and unjustified attack on a group of Kashmiri students who were ruthlessly beaten by students from other states, mostly Bihar, after a scuffle ensued between them in Swami Vivekanand Institute of Engineering & Technology (SVIET), Which falls in Banur area of district Mohali.

In a Statement, National Vice President of Association Mehraj Ahmad said that the students from other states ended up brawling with Kashmiri students when they had queued for food in the mess. Subsequently, after the brawl, a group of Kashmiri students was thrashed.

As per the victims, they were assaulted with bricks and iron rods, leaving two of them injured. He urged Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for stern action against the accused. Association is highly dissatisfied with the callous approach of college authorities.

State Secretary Punjab Sheikh Azhar said that after Kashmiri students were beaten, instead of action against the culprits, the Kashmiri students were chastised and fined.

These two injured students were told by college authorities to leave the college, which is highly condemnable. Where will a student who is far and away from his home go after being beaten? He demanded a probe and immediate arrest of all those involved in the assault on Kashmiri students.

Deputy Commissioner Patiala has assured that strict action will be taken action all those found intimidating Kashmiri students. However, there was no sort of hate crime in it.

There was no outsider involved in this incident some people may give a communal colour to the incident, but that is not correct. This incident has nothing to do with the prevailing situation of Kashmir Or any other concerns of Kashmir, Davood added.
