2 Primary Schools in North Kashmir With 1 Teacher Each : Students, Parents Aghast

Kupwara, Mar 16 : Scores of students in Lolab in frontier north Kashmir’s Kupwara district Wednesday lodged a strong protest claiming that there was a single teacher each in at least two government-run primary schools of the area.

While the students of Government Primary School Kakad said there was a single female teacher available for nearly 70 students, the Government Primary School Kakadpatti at the same time said there also was a single teacher for nearly 80 students.

The students, joined by their parents, expressed their concern on the overall situation.

A parent on the occasion, as per Kashmir Glory said that not only was the GPS Kakad facing staff shortage there also is even no proper infrastructure to run the school smoothly. “They have no school building where they can sit as normal students and learn from their teachers”, the parent said.

Meanwhile another parent whose ward is enrolled at GPS Kakadpati said that although they had some infrastructure available, it was an old house rented by the authorities. “The structure is too old and there is every apprehension that it may collapse at any point of time”, he said.

Even as the authorities concerned expressed their ebullience for receiving overwhelming response to recently concluded ‘enrollment drive’, the claims of students if true are surely they need to ponder on.

When contacted, Chief Education Officer Kupwara Abdul Hameed Fani told Kashmir Glory that all ZEOs concerned have been directed to look into the matter. “ZEOs concerned have been asked to see and accordingly send the required staff to such schools where there is dearth”, the education officer said adding they (ZEOs) are working on it and hopefully the issue will be sorted out soon.

The Education Officer further said that recommendations for infrastructure wherever required have also been made. “Hope this issue is resolved soon”, he said.(KashmirGlory)
