Latest Weather Update From Jammu And Kashmir
It seems that the weather pattern is going to repeat itself, where we may see frequent flow of Western Disturbances (weak or of light to moderate intensity) between 14 Feb & 20 March.
The Polar Vortex is intensifying - reaching record cold levels, which is unusual for this time of the year. Also, La Niña conditions are still prevailing.
Assuming this may create the weather pattern like before, at least 30% of the days should remain dry in Jammu and Kashmir. Cloudy weather (or light to moderate spells of rain/snow) is expected in around 40% portion.
Chances of any strong Western Disturbance are low.
Between 14 Feb & 20 March, J&K may receive around normal rainfall. Day temperature will stay around or slightly below normal, while night temperatures are likely to stay above normal.
There is a possibility that more than 10 Western Disturbances will affect J&K during this period.
Currently a Western Disturbance is affecting J&K which may cause light rain/snow at a few places (mostly in higher reaches) during the next 3 days.
Another WD may cause light rain/snow at many places around 18-21 Feb. There is a possibility of moderate rain/snow as well during the period, the same will be updated in a separate forecast.
Note : This is the first attempt for providing a long-range forecast for J&K. For most-accurate forecasts, it may still take some 10-20 years as very little research has been done in this field (linking J&K weather with global weather pattern).
