Students protest against restriction on number of seats in GDC Nowshera, block road
NOWSHERA : The students of Government Degree College (GDC) Nowshera held a strong protest against restricting number of seats up to 240.
The protesting students, both boys and girls, blocked road in front of college for a long time.
Speaking on the occasion, President Student Union, Hardev Singh said that GDC Nowshera caters to a large number of students including poor and border-dwellers, who can’t afford to take admission at distant colleges in Jammu or Rajouri.
“ Earlier there was no restriction on seats. Now, implementing restriction is unjust and unfair for students.
If the decision will not be revoked within 2 days, the students will block Bus-stand and National Highway,” he added.
Principal of College, Joginder Singh and Prof Rajat Sharma reached the spot and pacified agitating students, assuring them that their demand would be submitted to higher authorities for consideration.
Later, the students also handed over a memorandum of demands to the Principal and Addl DC Sukhdev Singh Samyal.
Meanwhile, former student leader and President Yuva Congress President Nowshera, Rishiv Sharma said that there was no limitation on seats till 2020 when 470 students were provided admission but in 2021 session, when 500-600 students applied for admission, the Government is restricting number of seats to 240, which is unethical and injustice.
Other students present during the protest included Ishan Sharma, Priya Kapoor, Rajnish Sharma, Shubham Kumar, Sourav Kumar, Sumit Datta, Hardev Singh, Ishu Isher and Rajnish Sharma.
