Rise in COVID 19 : Withhold periodic assessment of students : DSEK

 Srinagar, March 30, 2021 :

In view of surge in COVID-19 cases, the government Monday ordered withholding of continuous periodic assessment of students in schools till the conduct of first-term exams.

Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Mohmmad Younis Malik said some schools were not following the requisite Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while conducting the periodic assessment tests.

A statement said, in light of the COVID-19 SOPs for reopening of the schools and learning with physical and social distancing issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, it is again reiterated that assessment plans may be prepared along with rubrics.

“ The format for periodic test, midterm and final exams may be designed as per the demand of the situation and keeping in view the number of days and adjusted curriculum,” the Director said.

He said the schools should not plan any assessment of student learning in the first two or three weeks of reopening of schools to ensure their emotional well being.

“ Moreover, non-stressing assessments may be planned to identify the learning gaps to find out how much the students have learned during home based schoolings,” he said.

In an order, Malik said the assessments in the form of role plays, choreography, class quiz, puzzles and games, brochure designing, presentation journals and portfolios may be preferred over routine pen-paper testing.

He ordered adherence of the instructions strictly until the commencement of first-term examinations.
