Train service likely to resume from Feb 22 in Kashmir
Srinagar, Feb 15 2021 :
After remaining closed for the past 11 months due to outbreak of Coronavirus, the train services in Kashmir will likely be resumed from February 22.
An official at Northern Railways said they will operate train services from February 22.
“ We had sent a communication to the northern headquarters division command that from 22 February onward, train service will be resumed in the valley. All arrangements have been finalized in this regard,” the official said.
Chief Area Manager Northern Railways Kashmir, Saqib Yousuf, told Rising Kashmir that train services will be resumed at any time next week.
“ We have not finalized any specific day for the resumption of train services but it will definitely be resumed next week,” he said.
The 137-kilometer Banihal-Baramulla railway line has 17 stations.
The resumption of train services got a nod from railways after Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole had written a letter for its early resumption to the authorities.
As per the letter, it is clear that trains at the initial stage will make 3 to 5 rounds daily, which can be increased up to the maximum possible after a few weeks.
Earlier on March 19, Jammu and Kashmir administration had suspended the train services between Baramulla and Banihal following the rise of Covid19 cases in the valley.
