B.Sc Horticulture students stage protest, seek revision in JKSSB’s advertisement notice
Srinagar February 18, 2021 :
Scores of B.Sc Horticulture graduates on Wednesday staged protested and demanded early revision of advertisement issued by J&K Service Selection Board (JKSSB).
The protesting students alleged that the diploma holders have been invited to submit job applications while degree holders have been left out of recruitment process.
They further alleged that since B.Sc Horticulture was introduced in the varsity, not a single recruitment in the concerned field has been invited.
“ B.Sc Horticulture course was floated in the varsity in year 2007 and since then not a single degree holder pass out has been recruited by the department”, aggrieved students told Media.
They said J&K Service Selection Board (JKSSB) in its fresh advertisement notice vide no. 01/2021 made 345 posts among 211 technical, made public but unfortunately taking degree holders on priority.
“ The authorities have set diploma as eligibility criteria, which is sheer injustice with those who had passed out from different varsities after completing degree courses.”
They said the matter was taken up repeatedly with officials concerned, but our pleas have gone “unattended”.
“ The Government has made fun of Agricultural Science, particularly the Horticulture. Thousands of students came out from the varsity with professional degrees among scores acquired doctorate but ultimately they all have been ignored and pushed into dark”, a student wishing not to be named told Media.
The students who were protesting since Monday, had locked up the main entrance of the varsity, saying the Professors and other officials from the SKAUST administration have started to “ intimidate ” and “harass” them who are forcing them to windup the protest program.
Protesting students demanded early revocation of job advertisement issued by JKSSRB, besides recognition of those who completed degrees since the stream was floated in the varsity.
When The Media contacted acting Vice-Chancellor, SKAUST, Kashmir Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Teli, he said the resolution of the matter is up to the government who can take final call.
“ It is purely into the hands of Government who can revisit the advertisement issued by JKSSRB”, Dr. Teli said and added “SKAUST has no role in it.”
However an official from JKSSRB told Media that the Board is only a recruiting agency and is advertising posts accordingly what it receives from the concern departments.
He said it is the domain of government to revisit the notification if required.
The official added that JKSSRB don’t have any role in it and appealed protesting students to approach the Government instead of blaming JKSSRB.
