MeT predicts rains from tomorrow
People in Kashmir are likely to get respite from scorching heat as Meteorological department has predicted a two-day spell of rains from Thursday.
“There will be a spell of intermittent rains on Thursday and Friday in Kashmir,” said Deputy Director MeT department, Mukhtar Ahmad.
While Kashmir will witness light to moderate rains, there are chances of heavy downpour in Jammu.
“ We are hopeful that rains will bring down the temperature by a few notches,” said another MeT official.
He said Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 33.6 degrees Celsius on Wednesday while the humidity in the city was recorded at 47 degree.
The official said Pahalgam recorded a maximum temperature of 29.8 degrees Celsius while as humidity was recorded at 55 degree Celsius.
The official said Jammu recorded temperature of 36.8 degrees Celsius today.
About impact of weather on ongoing annual Amarnath Yatra, Ahmad said they were monitoring the situation. “We are monitoring weather continuously on twin routes as well as on National Highway,” he said.
According to World Meteorological Organization (WMO) standards for hydro-meteorological purposes, one weather station is recommended for an area of 100 sq Km in topographically complex mountainous regions like Himalayas. However, there are only seven weather stations in the entire Valley and six in Jammu region.
