Kashmir University has decided to hold the internal assessment test online

Kashmir University has decided to hold the internal assessment test online and set June 15 deadline for completing the syllabus of undergraduate and post-graduate students.

A meeting was held at Kashmir University on Monday and it was decided to complete the syllabus of students through virtual classes before June 15 and simultaneously conduct internal assessment examinations online.

The decision comes against the backdrop of UGC recommendation to start a new academic year from September instead of July given coronavirus and lockdown.

UGC has also recommended that the universities should either hold exams or should adopt some mode of assessing their performance before promoting them.

Media spokesperson, Kashmir University, Professor Shahid Rasool told  that a committee has been framed which will decide the mode and weightage of end semester examinations.

“As recommended by the UGC, the varsity will hold internal assessments online with 50% weightage. If pen and paper examination is not possible, UGC has said the students to be promoted to the next semester on the bases of performance showed in viva exams, internal assessments, and assignments,” he said.
Professor Shahid noted that the committee will inspect all modes of holding examination and decide whether to go with internal assessments or hold end semester examinations as well.

“Most of the departments have already completed the syllabus of existing semesters and they have started the curriculum of the next semester. The internal assessment exams will be held for both the semester concurrently,” he said.

Professor Shahid said after June 15, Kashmir University will also, try to bring the academic session at par with national universities. “The academic session of universities at the national level will start in September and by the time we will release the result of last semesters and students will be able to join other universities outside for further degrees,” he added.
