Govt orders promotion of 200 Associate, Assistant Professors

The government Thursday ordered promotion of 200 Associate and Assistant Professors serving in various government colleges across Jammu Kashmir.

In this regard, an order was issued by Secretary to the Government for Higher Education Department, Talat Parvez Rohella.

The department promoted 54 Associate Professors as In-Charge Principals while as 30 Assistant Professors were promoted in the Academic Grade pay of Rs 7000 and 109 Assistant Professors were promoted in the Academic Grade Pay of Rs 8000.

With the promotion of 54 Associate Professors (including in 50 new degree colleges), all the 148 Government Degree Colleges of the J&K have now got independent principals.

The department appointed over 50 Associate Professors (APs) as in-charge principals and 12 other in-charge principals were transferred to other degree colleges.

The order reads that the posting of 12 in-charge principals are transferred against vacancies and superannuation of existing in-charge principals.

The government said that consent was furnished by the 54 senior-most APs who were willing to be posted as in-charge principals.

The government said with the release of higher grade, a long-pending demand of Assistant Professors has been addressed.

“These arrangements shall not confer any right on the incumbents to claim preferential treatment for their promotion as the same is made in accordance with the provision of Jammu and Kashmir Education Gazetted College Service Recruitment Rules,” Rohella said.

He said the placements would be without prejudice to the outcome of the writ petitions if any pending considerations before the courts of competent jurisdiction.

Congratulating the promotees, Rohella said even during the lockdown to contain COVID-19, the department was trying to reach out to the students through e-classes.

He exhorted upon the teaching community to put in extra efforts to improve the quality of education in J&K.
