Patients remained under quarantine for 6 days, CMO says they had no symptoms during quarantine period

Qazigund, Apr 09 : Two persons from Anantnag and Kulgam districts who were tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, were earlier discharged from quarantine center just after staying there for 6 days only.

According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), both the patients along with seven others had met the first deceased patient of Kashmir, a Tableegi jamaat member from Hyderpora in Jammu.

One among the persons, who had met first deceased at Jammu on 14 March and was kept under quarantine along with two positive patients from Wangund Dooru Anantnag and Sopat Kulgam told—KNO that after death of Tableegi Jamaat member,  they were kept under quarantine at Kokernag.

"We asked authorities to take our samples but they refused to take samples by claiming that they take samples of only those persons who are symptomatic. Besides, we were even asked to return home after 6 days, “he said.

"We were kept under quarantine on 26th March and returned home on 1st April and since then we all were at home and have met dozens of persons," he said.

"A day before, we received a call to reach GMC Anantnag for tests and accordingly samples were taken today. Two out of nine were tested positive while as seven others have been hospitalized," he said.

Relatives and family members have also called it a medical negligence as according to them their tests should have been done during quarantine period and should not have been allowed to return home without following protocol.

"It is the negligence of those who were monitoring quarantine Center, "they said, adding that strict action should be taken against officials involved in negligence. They said that the patients were not handled as per the protocol required.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Anantnag, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Shah told—KNO that patients were fully fit at quarantine center Kokernag and there was no need of taking any samples from them.

"They might have got infected through second contacts," he said,  adding that in case they would have got infected due to first deceased case then they would have developed symptoms much before—(KNO)
