Cold wave conditions continued in the Kashmir Valley and the Ladakh region
SRINAGAR: Cold wave conditions continued in the Kashmir Valley and the Ladakh region on Monday as minimum temperatures remained below the freezing point, resulting in frozen water bodies and water supply lines in several residential areas.
Kargil recorded the night’s lowest temperature at minus 27.8 degrees Celsius while neighbouring Leh recorded a minimum temperature of minus 16.4, an official from Met department said.
Srinagar, the summer capital of the state recorded a low of minus 5.0 while the mercury in Qazigund in south Kashmir settled at a low of minus 7.2 degrees Celsius.
Gulmarg, the famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 11.5 degrees Celsius.
The night temperature in Pahalgam – the famous health resort which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra – settled at a low of minus 12.5 degrees.
Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 5.7 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 6.3 degrees Celsius last night.
Jammu recorded a low of 5.4 degrees Celsius while Batote recorded 0.9, Banihal recorded 0.6, Katra town 5.1 and Bhaderwah recorded minus 2.5 degree Celsius.
